French Grammar

A noun is a word that names a:

  • Person - like teacher, doctor, Alice
  • Place - like park, city, school
  • Thing - like book, apple, computer
  • Idea - like love, freedom, happiness
  • In French nouns can be singular or plural. For example le chat (the cat) is singular; whilst les chats (the cats) is plural.

    Moreover French nouns have a gender associated to them. They are either masculine or feminine. For example le soleil (the sun) is masculine; whilst la lune (the moon) is feminine.
